A combination of a sealed surface and a concave surface is made up of protrusions set within the intervals of the concave surface.

Do you know what the common forms of sealing surfaces for marine flanges are? Let's take a look below.Aluminum alloy flange plateLet's take a look together!
1. Concave-convex marine flange
A sealing surface and a concave surface combination is made up of a convex part, set within a concave surface. Suitable gaskets include: various non-metallic flat gaskets, coated gaskets, metal-clad gaskets, spiral wound gaskets, metal corrugated gaskets, metal flat gaskets, and metal serrated gaskets. Compared to flat types, the non-flat surface types cannot be easily compressed by gaskets, and the working pressure range for easy installation is wider than that of flat marine flanges, making them suitable for more stringent sealing requirements. However, for large diameter sealing devices used at high operating temperatures, the gaskets can still be extruded. For example, in heat exchangers, at a pressure of 2.45MPa and a temperature of 250°C, aluminum flat gaskets are used. In fact, shortly after the heat exchanger is put into production, leaks occur, and after a second tightening, it only lasts for a while. Upon inspection, significant deformation of the gasket's inner diameter was found. The reason is that pure aluminum has good plasticity, with a yield strength at 250°C being about 15% of that at room temperature, and an elongation rate of up to 4-5 times, which means that at high temperatures, the rolling and creep phenomena of aluminum gaskets are severe. Therefore, the required sealing pressure cannot be maintained between the gasket and the marine flange surface, necessitating a change in gasket material or the use of tongue-and-groove marine flanges and concave-convex marine flanges with two stop faces to resolve the issue.
2. Other sealing surface types of marine flanges
In addition to the three types of sealing surfaces mentioned above, there are also trapezoidal groove sealing surfaces, as well as special sealing surface types with shaped rings and lens gaskets.
That's all for now.Aluminum alloy flange plateI hope you can learn more about the common forms of marine flanges.
